International Biathle Honours For Halesowen.

Stuart secures Silver Medal at World Championships

Father and Daughter Stuart and Charlotte Geggie were representing Great Britain at the World Biathle Championships in Bonn, Germany on September 8th 2001.

Stuart and Charlotte earned their place in the Great Britain Team with superb performances in the British Championships, which were held at Milfield in July.

The Biathle is a continuous run-swim-run event unlike the separate run and swim in the Biathlon. This is the second time that Stuart has represented Great Britain having previously competed with distinction in an international event in South Africa earlier this year.

Representing Great Britain for the first time Charlotte gave a promising performance securing 12th place in a very competitive Junior Ladies event.

Stuart, competing in the Masters event led from the gun recording the fastest time of the day on the first 1000 metre run. A great 100m swim saw Stuart first leave the transition area for the final 1000m run. Despite another excellent run, the defending world champion from South Africa dashed Stuart’s hopes of the gold medal. He was the only competitor to run a faster second leg, and snatched victory from Stuart in the final few metres to win by just 2 seconds.

Stuart was understandably disappointed but extremely proud of his silver medal for the Great Britain Team, and grateful of the family support for himself and Charlotte from his wife Sadie and younger daughter Sarah.

The Great Britain Team completed the World Championships with 3 Gold Medals, 5 Silver and 7 Bronze against talented competitors from South Africa, Mexico, Austria, Lithuania and host country Germany.
